Also called a ‘gratuity’

Alright, peeps. We need to have a talk.

Now, I’ve been playing this game for four years now. Not since launch, or beta, but still, I think I’ve invested a good bit of time and effort into playing. And I chose my professions and stuck to them solidly over those four years. Four years of mining. Four years of blacksmithing, axesmithing and weaponcrafting. I’ve got epic patterns, and I can make this stuff.

So it’s important to point out how incredibly – no, beyond incredibly, it is monumentally RUDE to ask for a tip.

Obviously you don’t know what a tip is. A tip is a monetary reward for exemplary service. It is a way for a customer to express their gratitude for the service by means of giving you cash. It is freely given, not requested or asked for in any form. It is, very simply, a gift.

Do you know what it’s called when you demand money in exchange for services?

PAYMENT. Or a FEE.

So if you’re going to insist on a certain amount of money in-game to change hands in return for performing a service, that is requiring a FEE.

If that customer then decides that your service was awesome and wants to reward you with extra gold, that is called a TIP. Or if you’re just a nice person and are performing the service for free, and the customer wants to give you gold anyway, that is also called a TIP.

Stop demanding tips, people. It just shows you’re ignorant of the English language. It also means you’re a jerk.

Don’t be a jerk.
